Kids R Kids
May 2013 - September 2013
Kids R Kids is a childcare company similar in many ways to the Montessori Method. The Kids R Kids curriculum is founded upon the educational theories of Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Sara Smilansky. These three educational theorists guide the age appropriate learning experiences for the children. A cornerstone of Kids R Kids is that children learn through peer and teacher interaction in a creative and safe environment. The curriculum also scaffolds teaching strategies for every classroom age grouping using Piaget's frameowrk of proposed states in a child's ability to learn. This includes a plethora of playtime both outside and inside the classroom, giving the children freedom to create and explore their world.

While at Kids R Kids I taught the "Young 3s", which meant I was the teacher for students who had just turned three years old. Throughout my time at Kids R Kids, I developed the curriculum to reflect my students' learning needs and interests. Within my class of eleven students, there were three English language learners (ELLs) who had moved to the United States from European and African countries. Due to this, I developed activities and materials tailored to suit these students ELLs' needs. The focus in the curriculum was literacy, math, and social skills. Our classes ran from 9AM - 6PM Monday through Friday.
